Kristen began her artistic training at age 13 in private art classes. For her high school capstone, she produced a portfolio of portrait photography. She declared her Studio Art major early on in her college career and was exhibited in galleries on campus, and was accepted onto an art and creative writing study abroad program in Prague. Following the abroad, she traveled independently to Paris and London, falling in love with renowned museums including the Louvre, Musée d’Orsay, Musée de l’Orangerie, the British Museum, Tate Modern, and the Wallace Collection.
For her college capstone, Kristen produced an installation piece which focused on ongoing themes in her work: grief and solace. The piece consisted of numerous bedsheets sewn together and painted with white house paint and various objects and materials used to illustrate the process of letting go of physical objects during times of mourning. In conjunction with her capstone, she choreographed and directed a dance film titled “RUE,” which appeared in a college film festival, dance production, and her capstone exhibition.
